The transition to a low-carbon economy has already been set and is now well under way. Decarbonisation is not only a necessity for the survival of our planet, but also a great opportunity to reactivate the world economy and put it back on the path to growth. Investments necessary to achieve the various targets set by the international institutions are estimated to be around one trillion dollars per year for the foreseeable future, or as much as 60 trillion dollars in total. The shift from conventional to electric cars and the new infrastructures needed, both in cities and on highways, climate adaptation works, energy production and distribution, building retrofits, nature conservation and restoration projects, are only a few among the areas concerned.

The road to the new low-carbon economy goes through gigantic investments and needs specialised financial products and services. It is therefore becoming increasingly clear that finding the means to finance the decarbonisation of the economy is as much of a challenge as that of decarbonising the economy itself.

This is the first book dedicated to the subject of Green Finance, a new dynamic field of modern finance. Green Bonds, Equity Indices, Specialised Funds, Escos and Yieldcos are some of the products covered in the book, while ESG procedures and concepts ¿ of increasing importance in modern banking ¿ are also explained. A large database of institutions and policies, with detailed references, is equally included in this first guide to Green Finance.
